A Bithday To Remember 27th birthday turned out much different than I'd expected.

My husband came home from work and the first thing he said was:

"Okay honey...I'll be back in an hour...I have to go get your presents. This one kindof snuck up on me!"

For any dudes out there...that is NOT a good way to start your signifigant other's fun birthday evening celebration. So I replied:

"You mean 364 days wasn't an adequate amount of time to find presents!?!" (sad face)

To which he replied:

"Well....I pre-ordered the New Moon DVD for you. You can log into my email to see the confirmation???"

Now, while I do have a somewhat unhealthy love obsession for Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart, I really didn't know how to respond to that..."How romantic of you?" lol

So, we agreed he had 15 minutes to improvise because honestly at that point it really didn't matter if I got any presents. I just wanted to try and salvage the evening with a little dinner and cake. So off he went....

He returned about 23 minutes I figured not too bad. We decided to eat before I opened the presents he found (I'm using the term "opened" lightly because I don't know if you can consider taking things out of the CVS store sacks "opening" but whatever) :-P

Here is what he came up with....

Um nice try honey...50% OFF Valentines Day Presents do not a "good present make"

But then he brought this guy around the corner!!

A life sized Sugarbear!!
(And let's not forget the pre-ordered New Moon DVD ) lol.

So I forgave him

...but he has some major work to do before my next birthday!!

The "Previous" Incident

Date: February 21st, 2007
Where: The driveway in front of our condo in Lincoln, NE
Time: 8:28ish (How ironic !?!)
What: Broken Knee

This incident however was a 'FO REAL' broken knee...broken patella to be exact. The irony of this situation continues because this is almost the anniversary of when it happened to my hubby(if you inverse the numbers).

He was also walking, walking, la ti da, carrying his lap top across the lightly snow dusted parking lot when BAM! Now, you may wonder why I mentioned what he is carrying. That is because it is a key element of this particular incident. This situation may not have been so dire had he not been carrying his lap top. However, his thinking before hitting the frozen pavement was this: SAVE THE LAPTOP! SAVE THE LAPTOP! Well...he the expense of his poor little knee cap.

Now hold that thought:

Amber: 8:28ish

Typing and listening to my ipod...probably snow patrol's chasing cars. I was a teensy bit obsessed with that song in 2007 (right, Becky ;))I worked on the communication team at TD during this period of my life and was quite the multi-tasker!

Dave: 8:29ish

"OWWWWWWWW" "Help! Help! Help!" (where is everybody???) "OWWWWW" (This totally stinks. I wonder what life will be like with one leg) "HELLLLLP!" (Oh Yeah, I have my cell phone. Why am I simply trying to handle this like the old people on the 'I've fallen and can't get up commercials'??)

911: "What's your emergency?"

Dave: "I think my leg has separated from my body!!!"

Amber: 8:33ish

Me: (slightly peeved having to pause my Snow Patrol) "Hello?"

Father-In-Law: "Amber, Dave's been in an accident. He has been hit by a car."

Me: (starting to hyperventalate) "Are you serious!?! Oh my gosh. I'm leaving right now!"

I proceeded to try and control my ever building panic attack and hurridly left TD after explaining to my manager and team that my husband had apparently been hit by a car!! (Picturing my hubby and little pieces of him strewn across the road)

Dave & Amber: St. Elizabeth Hospital 9:28ish

Okay, so the commentary was taking too much time so I'll just simply tell you what happened. :) I walked into the hospital room to find that Dave had not actually been struck by a moving vehicle (phew) but had in fact fallen into a parked car and dislocated his patella while walking across our parking lot. I totally misunderstood his dad but it's slightly comical looking back on the situation. :) Dave then pulled back the covers for me to see his knee cap sticking out the side of his leg no longer in the middle, while the doctor walked in and prepared to move the knee cap back but not before stuffing a towel in dave's mouth....

.....then I passed out.

(The End)

The Incident

Place: Sidewalk outside front of my house at The Preserve
Time: 8:28ish
What: Broken Wrist, Broken Head, Broken Elbow, Broken Back

So I didn't really break anything but I might as well have!! I've managed to NOT FALL this entire winter even while carrying a baby, (thank goodness) and hobbling around on my "matrixectomied" foot. Well yesterday, I wore regular shoes and had NO BABY and completely wiped out. Awesome.

I was walking, walking, la ti da, enjoying the lightly snow dusted sidewalk (which was hiding a mini skating rink below me) when all of a sudden...SMACK! I just layed on my back for a while wondering WHAT THE HECK JUST HAPPENED!! I knew I was no longer walking and my head, wrist, back and elbow were throbbing a ton. Sure enough, I lifted my left wrist and saw a big blob of blood trickling onto my cream coat. Also, I was pretty sure I knocked myself out for a few seconds because my head was killing me and I felt like I was missing a few seconds of my life. lol. But, being the tough cookie that I am (Ha!) I pulled myself up and wandered over to my car. I however, did have a few not so nice thoughts about the staff at the preserve 1) because they have failed to scoop our sidewalk ALL winter so Dave has had to do it and 2) becuase everytime I move today I am reminded that their lazines has cost me a few seconds of my life and an investment in neosporin, bandages and a dry cleaning bill. That's $10.83 cents I'll never see again. Grrrr. They are oh so lucky I didn't really break anything! :) (Because my husband has before in a similar situation)

Actually...stay tuned...that story to come tomorrow! :)

Blast From the Past

If Clara were an antique lover, this would have been her ideal "vacay". :) It was a weekend full of little pieces of her family's history.

Four generations full of memories!
(Clara, Grandma, Me & Grandma "Great")

Clara hanging out in Grandpa "Great's" old high chair!

Getting some extra love from Grandma "Great"

And, 25 years ago, I actually wore the little dress she is wearing.(I tried to post the picture of me in it on here, but those attempts proved unsuccessful...however that was the whole point of taking a picture of Clara in the compare us.Oh well. lol.:))

She actually really liked this little dress...

...really liked eating it that is. ;)

Seriously mom..the kisses have to stop! :)

And last but not absolute favorite picture:

Clara and her little dolly Lola! :)

A Prayer

I received this forward today and I'm not going to lie; sometimes I don't read forwards. However, this one caught my eye and it was just what I needed to hear today! (Thank you Kelsi!)

Saint Theresa's Prayer

May today there be peace within.

May you trust God that you are exactly where you are meant to be.

May you not forget the infinite possibilities
that are born of faith.

May you use those gifts that you have received,
and pass on the love that has been given to you.

May you be confident knowing you are a child of
God. Let this presence settle into your bones,
and allow your soul the freedom to sing, dance,
praise and love..

It is there for each and every one of us.

*On a side note...for those of you that are into celebrity gossip (me = guilty) "No, Heidi Montag I'm sorry but you are not even close to being a St. Thereasa! :)

Making Music

Many of you know this...Many of you don't... :)

I actually love, with every ounce of my heart, writing music. Now, up to this point, most people probably think my career related desires are entirely related to the financial industry. This is 100% incorrect. (However, I don't blame you because that's where I work, so that is a very logical conclusion to make!) :)

Since the age of 9, my goal has been song writing. I think it began because of everything that was happening with my dad. I was too young to really express my sadness about his cancer so I would write about it in music. Now, not all the songs were sad or "deep" by any means...I remember a few songs focused entirely on being mad at my mom for taking away my toys for the day. lol. But that's what I did. Every second of my spare time would be spent, feet dangling off my piano bench, writing down my thoughts to music.

This then progressed to writing about my friends through music as I got older. In high school, I had a song for every single break-up or "first love" of each of my friends. I actually got the chance to play one of these songs at a friend's wedding a couple summers ago. I still think it's so cool that she married the guy she'd loved since 9th grade!! Sooo cute!! :)

When I was a sophomore, I traveled to TX to meet with the promoter of Brad Paisely and The Dixie Chicks. He had actually heard my songs because he happened to be friends with my Uncle who is a banker in TX. It was the single most thrilling experience of my life (with regards to my writing career). And, he actually wanted to move forward, but before we could, he gave me some homework...I needed to work on a few "hooks" and send him the updated songs in a month. That C.D. never got sent...the songs never finished....

I still can't really contemplate why I didn't ever get that C.D. to him? Why I couldn't find the time to invest in something that meant everything to me? Why I couldn't, for one measely month, focus on the thing I'd dreamed about the past 10 years? All I could ever come up with is that the timing simply wasn't right...I was having so much fun being a teenager I couldn't force myself into adulthood at that moment.

Well, I've decided it's time to once and for all pursue this dream again for real. I'm crazy excited. I'd started last January working with a producer in KC, but God had a little girl on the agenda for 2009 so I have 4 partially finished songs from that effort. However, starting last year, my efforts turned from self-directed to prayer filled. And wow how the doors have started to open. The most recent being this: My friend Tracy (who watches Clara) is married to Brandon. He is a former member of the grammy nominated christian band Superchick. He has kindly offered to really help me get these songs off the ground. He will find the vocalists, the producer, etc. It is just up to me to find the 4 songs I want to use. ...and then we wait...we wait to see if these songs can stand the brutally difficult-to-break-into music industry.

I'm not sure if zero persons will show interest or if hundreds will, but either way I will know that once and for all I have finally given it everything. And strangely enough if I never sell one song I know I will find peace in just knowing I tried. I really tried.

So, during this waiting period, I am praying with all my heart that my love of music carries over to my daughter...but I think you can see from the picture, a little Ms. Mozart is already in the works! :)

It's Here!!!!

I know many of you are probably not Lost fans but I AM and I AM about to die of excitement for tonight! The producer's made us wait what's felt like a bazillion years for this final season and I AM going to disappear from this earth for 1 hour tonight!! I have a babysitter lined up (Daddy) and a whole bag of candy sweet hearts (because its almost Valentines and not only are they tasty they are encouraging little candies with their "I love you's, etc") :)

So, finally I can know IF JULIET IS ALIVE, WHY RICHARD HALPERT WON'T AGE, WHERE THE HECK CLAIRE HAS BEEN and IF THEY WENT BACK TO THE FUTURE OR FORWARD TO THE PAST (and yes, I said that correctly..only true Lost fans will understand that though)!?! Ohhhh boy am I excited!!!!

For those who may not understand my excitement or think it is a little over the top I will leave you with this thought;

The president moved the "State of the Union" address because of this season premiere.

Enough said. ;)
